Za wolność!

PZL 39 Łosoś 1 by mrutek
PZL 39 Łosoś 1, a photo by mrutek on Flickr.

As far as I can tell, the Polish WWII fighter design this is based on was a concept, never put into production. Or possibly the product of the builders imagination, inspired by other PZL designs ...my Polish is non-existent. But with all those stud-free dark green surfaces, and the opaque window technique, it's truly a thing of beauty!

Swords and sorcery

Ok, a little fantasy-themed double act for you this evening... A full metal knight by Moko and a crazy croissant-faced wizard by Lego-Man-at-arms. I like to pretend they are certain characters from a certain Python movie (...insert catchphrases here, then curse your own sadness!).

And check out Moko's blog post about the knight, which features an awesome action pose near the end!

At this point we've seen a lot of builds floating around of the minions from Despicable Me. So it was kind of refreshing to see a version of Gru (complete with to-scale minion) by Legopard.

Prepare to be assimilated by awesomeness!

BrickCon 2013 ("Pigs vs Cows" edition) is now little more than a week away! Over 400 builders, half of them from outside Washington, are making their final frantic preparations. And at our last monthly SeaLUG meeting, I was fortunate enough to spy this Borg warrior by local mainstay and excellent character builder Shawn Snyder.

If you are fortunate enough to make BrickCon this year, you'll get to see not only the chap above, but also his matching recharging station, a large Borg head bust, and many of Shawn's other works, over at the Bricks of Character table. I can't wait! This year's convention is gonna be awesome, and I have a 'feeling' that there are a few cool surprises in store...

It's LEGO, Jim, but not as we know it!

From the people that brought you The LEGO Builders Book comes the all space-themed publication LEGO Galaxy. Once again they have called upon the skills of builder Joachim Klang (aka -derjoe-) to create some of the scenes. The book contains plenty of LucasPorn for all the Star Wars fanboys, but I'm really digging this blocky take on classic Star Trek...

Hog-on-hog action

This super-huge, super-pink rendition of Miss Piggy on a motorcyle is attributed to Dutch builder Alex de Jong and showed up at Lego EXPO in Lisbon (Portugal) over the summer. Hiiiiii-YA!

Schmidt happens!

The new season of the sitcom New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel (the thinking man's Kate Perry) begins tomorrow, and Moritz Nolting is clearly their number one fan, since he created this...

Moritz cites the build style as "Ochre Jelly-esque" but I would have categorized it as "Put Ochre Jelly out of a job" because he really has nailed the style completely, and then some. So if I fall under a bus, you all know who has to pick up the torch...

The Super-Odd Couple

I'm not sure what's more awesome about this one, whether that its poking fun at superheroes in a "canonistically incorrect" fashion, or the wealth of little details around the kitchen, or the hilarious use of "jumper face" [ok, that's a thing now, I'm calling it], or the fact that the entire thing was built by a 9-year old, namely the son of Olivier Curto (aka oLaF LM). All the above!
